Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND)

The Relax Kids programme is INCLUSIVE – all children will benefit from these simple exercises and relaxation techniques. The programme has improved overall levels of emotional literacy, behaviour and attainment in schools. The programme has proved to be especially useful for children with special educational needs or behavioural challenges.

Our exercises help children develop social skills, boost self-esteem, manage stress and anxiety, manage anger and behaviour, and help children feel good about themselves and their development.

Our exercises can be adapted for use with children with ADD, ADHD, autistic spectrum disorder, disruptive behaviour, depression, and anxiety problems. Relax Kids has been used widely and effectively for children with Special Educational Needs.

“I use Relax Kids in my school twice a week and I can not recommend it highly enough. I work with 4 and 5 year olds in a very socially and economically deprived area. There are a lot of behaviour issues but the use of Relax Kids really helps to calm them down and gives them a channel for expressing their emotions. Thank you for this wonderful resource which has been so successful that we will be rolling it out to the rest of the school this academic year.” Gillian Miller, Teacher

“The children appeared much more responsive and able to participate in relaxation and understand what being in a state of calmness actually feels like. This is an amazing development for us, that will enable us to give greater support our clients with ADD/ADHD, Autism, Asperger’s and those with social, emotional and behavioral issues and their families.” Jill Appleton, Teacher

As an experienced SENCo I know the importance of these sessions being accessible to all pupils regardless of ability or additional needs which pupils may have.  The sessions are adapted in a variety of ways to support all children's engagement.  I approach each new group with an open mind and seek to gather key information about pupils from the class teachers and TAs prior to starting a block of sessions with any class or group.
